A Victory

My buddy Stein over at The Pagan Science Monitor celebrates the "retirement" of Chief Illiniwek at the University of Illinois with a parallel universe in which Jewish mascots dance at halftime shows.

Actually, the mascot of the Honolulu Hassidim, Besht-the-Pious-One, davvens more than he dances.

oops, sorry. Although an opponent of the abuse of Jewish team-mascots, I don't really know anything about the deep study involved in putting together the show. my bad!

I wonder what a Norwegian mascot would do at halftime? Scowl with sullen disapproval and eat lots of lutefisk? Man, my heritage sucks.

BTW, if you haven't seen it, the comments here are an epic take-down of a clueless "A-list" blogger and Illinois alum who penned an egregious defense of the mascot.

The link in Norbizness's comment is broken. I think the Norwegian mascot would crack lame Swedish jokes: "You can always tell a Swede...but you can't tell him much! Haw!" -- that sort of thing.
